Anguirus: Death in the Ice Epilogue
Epilogue The white sterile room reflected an ironic stark contrast to the black vile soul who sat within it. It was large and cavernous, with a single oak finished table lying in its center. Along one of the walls was a massive television screen which was currently set to a Russian news station. Even though the gaunt and wizened figure that sat alone in the room could not speak Russian, he understood the gist of what was being said. The curvaceous long haired blonde female reporter was informing her country of the tragic and senseless death of a soldier by the name of Vaslov Petrov. He was a prominent young man with an admirable career in the Russian army. The poor man was murdered; gunned down in the streets of Moscow a few days ago. He was left to rot in an alley like a piece of discarded trash. His assailant was yet unknown, but the military police were naming General Boris Yaroslav as a person of interest in the case. His current whereabouts were unknown at the time. The

Chapter 6: Hopes and Plans The small black unmarked car drove its way through the crunching ice of Moscow’s open streets, before it came to rest at a curb in front of a dilapidated apartment complex. The vehicle idled and spewed its choking black fumes as a man in military dress inside watched the front door to the building open. Pulling a heavily layered coat closer to his chest, another man in formal military dress stepped out from the doorway and into the cold Russian winter. His hat brimmed over his face, but did not prevent him from seeing the registered vehicle to pick him up for his debriefing meetings that morning with some of the highest politicians that worked in the Russian military. The shivering soldier approached the car and opened its side passenger door, only to be greeted when his eyes befell upon the face of his commanding officer Boris Yaroslav. “Sir I didn’t know you were picking me up,” Vaslov breathed surprisingly. “I would have thought you would have

Chapter 5: A Gathering of Three Boris Yaroslav looked out at the field of monsters that had gathered at one of the most remote places on God’s green earth. Each of them was stamping and roaring at the other; each with centuries of built of hate pouring out of them. Peguila and Maguma had backed away and stood weary of the newly arrived reptilian creature Anguirus. The snarling saurian was impressive in stature but it was also a complete anachronism to the world. The beast was as out of place as it was from time itself. He pawed and tore at the ground like a bull preparing to charge. A boundless call had awoken Anguirus from his slumber. It had beckoned for him to come. Indeed he had answered that call and found a purpose in its cry. The tawny beast looked around for the source of the signal. The twin horrors that challenged him could not be its creator. There was no musical bardic with their harsh bellowing roars. No, it was not them that had lured him here. A visible puff of

Chapter 4: Twins of Cold Akim Ekk, squadron leader pilot of the Helix helicopters from the Udaloy Destroyer, pulled his cyclic stick gingerly to the left once again. Depressing the anti-torque pedal slightly, he eased down and let up on some of the engine’s puttering heart. He had just heavily taxed his aerial vehicle in his recent battle with the giant walrus-like monster. Under ideal conditions of summer temperatures and humidity he would not have been so worried. But the sheer cold and hellacious winds of the North Pole were certainly not an environment that his military aircraft were built to be handling missions in. Any wrong move, on his or any of the other pilots under his command, could cause their choppers to plummet from the sky and join the kaiju Maguma in the briny depths of the cold Arctic Ocean beneath them. He tilted his machine and looked down upon the teeming area around Mjöllnir’s Summit. From his Helix chopper he could see Boris Yaroslav standing like a

Chapter 3: Call of the Lonely Hours crawled by, like sands in an hourglass, as the scientist diligently worked away at the terminals that they were able to bring back a spark of life to. Boris Yaroslav meanwhile had sat himself in silence with eyes closed in a corner of the room. He allowed his communal puppets to continue their business while he would catch a few minutes of a military power nap. The stresses of the weather, as well as the horrible visual sight of the demon that had destroyed his installation beforehand, was enough to weaken even the most powerful of men’s resolve. There was no use for him to be awake while the unaware civilians did their busy work. He needed to collect his strength just in case. Battle was inevitable, and it was always a forefront thought to a hardened soldier’s mind. Gaafa in the meantime had taken a more proactive venture. He quietly took his friend Vadim by the arm and led him away from the occupied group. Together they plunged down a few of

Chapter 2: The Winds Speak The raven night sky blanketed the Arctic lands, covering all in a pitch-black veil. The only relief from the stark jet cauldron was the pale light from the full moon that hung overhead. The light sea blue effulgence was shining down on the sleeping ship. It bathed the vessel with radiant and luminescent glows of fading pearl and sapphire. Her decks were quiet now, all but devoid of life. Her crew was sound asleep after a long hard day. As soon as their captain gave them the order to remove as much ice as they could from the hull, they did so with vigorous resolve. Unfortunately the task was much more difficult than they had expected. They spent hours upon the slippery snows, hacking and chopping away at the cold grasping ice. In the end they felt that they accomplished very little of the job. The crystal water was as hard as rock. For every bit they seemed to get chipped away, it would appear that more of it would spring up to replace it. It was as if

Chapter 1: Mystery In The Snow The frigid arctic air blew across the old barge’s deck, numbing the several pairs of men that stood on her bows. Each was wrapped tightly in their own woolly coats. Although, the dark brown thick clothing did little to stem the breezes of glacier winds that whipped about and lashed out fiercely around them. Behind each of their clear goggle masks, they could see only endless hills of white land before them. Layers upon layers of pure white snow stretched as far as the eye could see. Some of the men grumbled, while others shivered uncontrollably. More ice cracked and split as the iron hull of a massive ship wedged its way through the floating ice. Man’s machines were defying nature’s work and were paving a road for his own personal travels. Thousands of feet of cold earth were shattered and parted from their path. The ship, the Iron Brokkr, had ventured this trip many times before. With each new venture, new dents and scratches were made along her
